Understanding AutoSSL in Control Web Panel (CWP) Print

  • 0

Overview

AutoSSL is a built-in feature in Control Web Panel (CWP) that helps secure your websites by automatically issuing and installing free SSL certificates. With increasing web security standards, having an SSL certificate is no longer optional—AutoSSL ensures your domains are protected right from the start.

How AutoSSL Works in CWP

For all hosting services set up under our updated plan structure (as of December 1st, 2017), CWP AutoSSL will handle SSL installation automatically and without manual intervention.

Key Features:

  • Automatic SSL Provisioning
Once your service is active, a free AutoSSL certificate is automatically installed within 1 hour, provided that:

    • Your domain is live

    • Your domain is correctly pointed to our nameservers

  • Retry System
If validation fails initially, CWP will issue a self-signed certificate as a temporary fallback. The system will then retry issuing a valid certificate around 2:00 AM (server time) until successful.

  • Certificate Details:

    • Type: Domain Validated (DV)

    • Issuer: Typically issued via Let's Encrypt or ZeroSSL (depending on configuration)

    • Renewal: Auto-renews every 90 days

    • Condition: Your domain must remain active and pointed to our nameservers to renew successfully

Using Your Own SSL Certificate

CWP also allows for full manual SSL management. You can:

  • Install a Premium SSL Certificate purchased from us

  • Upload and configure a third-party SSL certificate

Important Notes:

  • AutoSSL will not override manually installed or premium certificates.

  • If you decide to switch back to AutoSSL later, please open a ticket on sive.host, and we’ll help make the transition seamless.

Troubleshooting & Notes

  • Make sure your DNS is correctly set to our nameservers before SSL generation begins.

  • DNS propagation can take time (2- 72 hours) —AutoSSL may not succeed until this process completes.
